Raul Garcia, age 90, passed away at his home in San Diego, CA, from complications of dementia and cancer. He was predeceased by his loving wife Judy. From 1953 to 1962, Raul served in the U.S. Marine Corps and attended Radio School. In 1964 he joined the U.S. Army Reserve Special Forces based in San Diego. He graduated from Airborne School and was a trained Special Forces Communications Sgt.
Over his 30-year SF career he attended the Operation & Intelligence Course, SCUBA school, Rough Terrain Jump School, Mountain Climbing School, Jungle Warfare School, Cold Weather and Ski Training, Jumpmaster Course. He was assigned to the 17th SFG(A), 12th SFG(A), 1st SOCOM, USASOC and SOCPAC. These assignments took him to Korea, Panama, Okinawa, and Thailand. Among his awards and decorations is the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Special Forces Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, SCUBA Badge and foreign parachute badges.
In 1994, Raul retired from the military as a well respected Sergeant Major. Raul was a Life Member of the Special Forces Association and a charter member of Chapter 75. He will be missed by his family, friends and the Green Beret brotherhood. He served his nation well and with honor
