Edward “Ed” Dougherty

Edward Dougherty, age 81, passed away at his home in Coronado, CA. He is survived by his wife Ann and son Larry. Ed was born in Philadelphia, PA. In September 1964, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army and received Basic Training and Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Ord, CA. He volunteered for Airborne School and Special Forces. He completed the Special Forces Qualification Course as a SF Engineer (18C4S).
He subsequently served with the 3rd SFG(A), 7th SFG(A), 12th SFG(A) USAR, 1st SOCOM and USSOCOM before retiring from the Army as a Master Sergeant in September 1992. Ed earned the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/4 olc, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, Special Forces Tab, Parachutist Badge and Canadian Airborne wings.
Ed was a graduate of San Diego State University with a B.S. in Computer Science. He was Vice President of Veritas Trainers International. He was interested in shooting, history, old cars, and dedicated many years to the Boy Scouts of America. Ed also participated in annual J.R.O.T.C. awards programs with SFA recognition medals and certificates presented to outstanding cadets.
Ed was a charter member of SFA Chapter 75. He will be missed by his family, friends and the Green Beret brotherhood. He served his nation and community well. De Oppresso Liber.
