The BLK OPS™ Veterans Project is deeply rooted in honoring and preserving the legacies of our veterans. This project is dedicated to honoring & amplifying the stories of underrepresented veterans within Special Operations Forces. It seeks to shed light on the experiences of minority service members including Latinos, Blacks, Asians & Women. One of its goals is to encourage minorities to become engaged in Special Operations Forces.
Our very own Special Forces Chapter member, Leo Casiple, was an important constituent of those bringing light of this organization to our San Diego Community. In addition to speaking at this event, Leo has been a steadfast speaker & mentor on innumerable occasions to other minority groups as well as high school & ROTC students .
Also speaking at this highlighted event was another Special Forces Minority Veteran, Dr. Richard Carmona, who epitomizes how Special Forces has positively influenced our unprivileged minority youth. As a high school dropout from the Bronx, Dr Carmona entered the service & trained to be an SF Medic who served admirably in Vietnam, earning a number of awards. After discharge he went on to college & medical school and became a Trauma Surgeon. He was subsequently tapped to become the 17th U.S. Surgeon General under President G.W. Bush.
The mission of Black Ops is clear: to shine a light on the stories of those who have served, ensuring they inspire future generations. With a rich background in the Airborne and Special Operations communities, their commitment to this project is personal, as is the commitment of our Chapter towards supporting such organizations.
